Will We Never See Our Granddaughters Again?
About a year ago, our son and his wife were divorced. Because complaints were filed against her with DFS by both her parents, and the day care, she fled Wyoming and moved to Colorado with the 2 year old twins.
Our son has tried to visit, but after an 8 hour drive, he will arrive and find that she has disappeared with the girls for the weekend. He has nearly given up on trying to see them. The rest of the family wants to maintain a relationship with these precious baby girls. What, as grandparents, can we do to be able to continue to be part of their lives? Thanks!

Was your son awarded any visitation time in the divorce? If so, your son needs to document all missed time. Have him get PROOF that he was in the area to get the children (ie..Police reports, receipt from gas stations, whatever), then file contempt.
At this time your efforts would be better rewarded by helping your son to maintain his visitation rather than trying to file yourselves.

Did the ex wife have permission to leave the state with the children? You implied that she did this without the courts permission.
You have to tell us what the court orders are regarding the children before we can begin to help.

He was actually given joint custody. No, she did not ask the court before going and it took our son nearly 6 months to locate them

Court orders are for joint custody. No she left without court permission. Our son has been to meet with the friend of the court, but it seems that they aren't interested in helping him. :wallbang:

No, your son needs to take her back to court for violating the order. Then explain to the judge that she left the state with them. She will have to travel the 8 hrs back to WY to account for her actions. The longer your son waits, the harder it will be for him to get action. He may in the end get full custody and I recommend that he go to court and request it YESTERDAY. What she did is a big no no.
So in asking what you can do? Can you hire a lawyer for him?
