California Emancipation
My friend, a 14 year old was moved away from his home town in California at age 13, to Maryland. The mother remains in his hometown. The boys wants back home, and his mother supports his return.
The best solution, emotionally, would be for the boy to be emancipated. He is very mature, a straight A student, and well connected to relatives and good adults back home. He meets all the qualifications for emancipation except his father in Maryland may not approve. What are his options?
This kid would have a difficuilt time with a re-opened custody case, as this is the fourth time through the mill, and dad always wins.
Friend and associates can easily hire this kid for week-end employment, earning enough to cover an apartment across the street from his intended high school. We can hire up a professional parent, if need be.

Emancipation of Minor
So the father has custody of the boy in California? It is unlikely that a California court would grant emancipation, particularly given the child's age and the father's opposition. The fact that there are people in Maryland who might offer him work such that he would be ostensibly self-supporting is not likely to overcome the court's notice that he is not presently self-supporting.
