Unwanted Guest
i currently rent a house with my girlfriend in california. about six months ago i had a request from an old friend to help him store his property in my garage as he was moving out of his house and entering a rehab facility. i told him that when he exited the rehab (drug free) that he was welcome to stay at my place until he could get back on his feet.
well, he has been living in my house for the last two months. i work out of state and have not been there but have gotten updates from my gf that he has been making life a living hell for her with verbal abuse, threats, and generally trying to take the house over. after my gf suggested that he find a new place to dwell he informed her that since he has lived there more than a week that he is now a resident and does not have to leave.
he is not on the lease and has never payed any bills or rent.
he has screamed, threatened and at one time physically knocked a phone out of my gf's hand. my neighbors have heard him in his tirades and have asked my gf concerning her safety. i have called the police (i work out of state) from my ship and was told there is nothing that i can do short of an eviction. is this true?
any GOOD advice on this situation would be extremely helpful and might help me from staying out of jail or a hospital.
thank you

Re: Unwanted Guest
Tell your girlfriend to call the police the next time that he gets out of line. He'll get arrested for domestic violence.
You didn't mention the name of the state or did I miss it?
