Who Has The Right To Support Arrearages
Texas, My mother began receiving child support for myself and my brother when we were in our teens. My grandparents always lived with us so my mother was able to come and go as she pleased. She left us several times to live with boyfriends leaving our granparents to take care of us. After my grandmother died and my grandfather moved out she left for good. She told my bother and I that she was no longer getting child support and could no longer afford to take care of us. I was 18 and had just graduated high school and he was 17. Neither of us had a job or a car. She let us stay at the house which was paid for. We had no way to pay the bills so everything was cut off. I left to stay with friends so I could get a job and support myself. Two years later my mother needed surgery so I went to her house to help her get papers she needed in order. I found stubs from child support that she is still receiving! I feel she owes this money to my brother and I since she never took care of us and that is what the money should have been used for. Is it possible to have the checks sent to my brother and myself instead of her? Is it worth getting a lawyer to fight this.

The money was rightfully your mother's. No, getting an attorney would not do any good because you and your brother do not have any legal standing.
