I’m currently doing an assignment for my university coursework about console modification e.g. modifying a console such as an Xbox so it can run linux.

I understand it would be illegal to play pirated games on the console, but what about modifying the console to run applications you have coded your self?

How would I go about finding out if this is legal or not?
