Widow's 'Dower' In Virginia In 1890's
I found an old court document dated July 1890 indicating that my Great-Great Grandmother sought to have my Great-Great Grandfather's will overruled. The document she filed with the Gloucester County, Virginia, court cited her rights under Section 2271 of the (1887) Virginia Code and indicated she was renouncing her claims as specified in his will in the format required by Section 2559 of the (1887) Virginia Code.

Can anyone provide me with a copy of these old Virginia Codes?

    Thanks for any help,

    Edward Williams
    Hayes, Virginia

Check with an area law library, as they may have old statute books available. You can also try the Library of Virginia, which I would expect to have a copy.
