    Severance vs. Unemployment claim
If the employee accepts a severance agreement, they still have the right to file for unemployment, BUT.......the employer can contest it, correct?

The severance was offered with the employee's resignation.

    Please help clarify.

    Quitting & Unemployment Insurance.
You usually don't qualify for unemployment if you voluntarily quit a job. There can be exceptions. Your state's unemployment insurance office should be able to advise you as to whether your resignation would affect your qualification; otherwise, you could consider applying to see if your application is approved.
