Caught Stealing At Sears In Canada
I have a court date in two weeks. If anyone knows anything about Canadian law, can you help? Never been in trouble with the law before. Do I need a lawyer, does canada offer free lawyers if I ask in court? Should I just plead not guilty, and hope for the best? Community service, fines, etc.
Also I travel into the states to visit family alot, will this affect crossing the border??

You can inquire with the court where you are charged about getting a public defender. They should be able to advise you as to whether you are eligible, and the process of requesting a lawyer. Worry about the resolution of the charge first, then how it might affect your ability to cross the border; but yes, Canadian and U.S. authorities are sharing criminal records such that conviction information will likely be available at the border.

Will I know the result of my charge at my first court date? Or will there be more dates to follow? Or does this depend on what the judge decides?

I recieved a letter to appear for an interview for a program, that will keep me from having to go to court as a 1st time offender, and that I seriously qualify. I will be going to this interview, but do you know what it will be like? Questions asked? Can I ask questions? I really would like to know if I can continue to travel into the states or not. Is this interview an appropriate place to ask this?
