Emailed Lies Regarding Job Performance in California
A woman that I used to work with has been sending out emails to the members of the club that I work for, making outrageous claims regarding the financial handlings of my department and naming me personally responsible. Her numbers are deceptive and false, as are her claims of what I "demanded" or "Blackmailed" the members into. Our financials are in better shape than they've ever been. How do I get her to stop putting out this libelous propaganda?

And what damages have you suffered as a result of this? (Hint: hurt feelings are not damages. Neither is the possibility that maybe someone will think poorly of you in the future.)

I manage the restaurant and answer directly to the HOA. As a private club, the home owners (recipients of her emails) make up 90% of my customers. The restaurant is doing really well but as soon as someone comes in on a slow night, they start to think there is truth in these email claims and this could directly affect their opinion of my job performance....and whether they renew my contract. I'm not really worried about my job. The majority of members are greatly supportive and the monthly tallies will prove her wrong. I just don't think people should be able to make outrageous false claims that could affect your business sales or hurt your professional reputation.
