Dad Won't Let Me See My Mom
My name is Jay. I live in PA and i am 14. My dad got custody of me a year ago from my mom. Now its been a year and he barely lets me see my mom. Only when hes in a good mood. And its making me mad. Any ideas on what I can do. My mom let him see me when she had custody so..but hes just too mean. :( Help me please!

Hi Jay - that sucks and I feel really badly for you. My daughter is 14 so I can imagine how it makes you feel when your parents don't get along. Unfortunately - unless you know the exact wording of the child visitation/custody agreement there is not much you can do. There could be some stuff in there that your dad has not told you - like maybe your mom is only supposed to see you a few specific times a year... I don't know. Does your mom live near you? Can you talk to her on the phone or thru e-mail and stuff? Is there a reason why they don't have shared custody? Does mom know you want to see her more?

Do you know how often the order states that your mom is to get visitation?

This link will give you a general overview on Pennsylvania's Child Custody and Visitation.

The next time you get a chance to talk or see mom, you could ask her. It sounds as though she has very limited visitation rights.

Yes - the ball really is in mom's court. If the current order DOES allow her to see you more then she needs to tell the court your dad is violating the order. If the current order does NOT allow mom to see you more then mom needs to file a petition with the court asking permission to see you more. I'm really sorry that we can't help you more.

    Hi Jay,

You know you are a kid & you probably dont know the whole story between your mom and dad, & some things should not be told to the child, though you may think that your father is being mean but maybe there's a reason he is not letting her see you or maybe your not being honest and telling the whole story. I'm sure that you love both your parents & they also love you, but instead of you writting your father off as the bad guy you have to be able to understand that his job as a father is to protect you, maybe you should try being honest & maybe talking to your father about how you feel, your father has custody of you, I have a step son just like you & I understand the whole story, honesty is the best policy I asure you.
