Tenants Rights In Foreclosure
well we rent this house in pa and one day the sheriff showed up and handed us papers saying that the property is being foreclosed and a sheriffs sale is happening on 4/18/08. i advised i am not the owner of the property. they told me that i can do what ever i wanted with the papers. i stated i can not afford to move and that we moved in here back in 9/1/07. he then laughed and stated that according to court papers we were had. the owner was in default before we even signed the lease. the owner never informed us of anything. we just received a letter from her mortgage company that is telling us the same thing. what are our rights? we pay our rent faithfully on the first of the month and she has never disclosed any of this to us. i have called and left her messages asking for her to call me back since i received legal papers but she refuses to return calls. our lease is for 1 year which will not expire till 8/31/08. can we sue her for all of our back rent? what if she lies to us and states that the house is not going to foreclosure and demands we pay our rent? can we ask for documentation that it is not going to be sold? can we obtain ownership?
