    Employer Docking Pay Without Consent
    State: North Carolina
    County: Mecklenburg

I'm a salaried employee at a veterinary hospital. Treatment was performed on my pets and placed on my invoice in the hospital management software. This bill was then finalized and the total amount was deducted from my next scheduled paycheck. This has happened to me more than 10 times and to more than one employee. This is not printed in the employee handbook, nor was it discussed with me prior to happening. SOME employees have discussed a large bill with the office manager and have set a pre-deterimined amount to be deducted from their paycheck in order to pay down such a large bill. I was NEVER part of one such discussion. When confronted the office manager replied "I didn't think you'd mind."

Is it legal to dock my paycheck without consent, discussing or alerting me to it prior?

Thank you so much in advance for any information you have.

After this happened the first time, is this when you confronted the office manager? And did you tell her you DID mind? Did the other nine times happen after this discussion??

The first 5 or 6 times, the amount was so small that I didn't even notice it in my direct deposit (and they have failed to give me pay stubs for 4 of the 9 months I have worked there - currently resolving this). It was when the amount totalled $148.00 that I realized and confronted the office manager. The subsequent events were treated with a "that's the way it is" mentality so I specifically asked that my bill NEVER be paid via deduction, but rather by credit card payment and they may NOT keep my cc information on file. I feel like they are stealing my income without consent.
