Emancipation

Hi i live in Kent washington, and Me and my best friend want to get emancipated together, cause we want to live outside of parent control, and our parents hate us so much. my mom has said several times how much better off she would be without me, so i suggested i get emancipated. My friend said that if we were roommates, and we were both paying for rent, then things could really work out. I cant do alot with my girlfriend either becuase im not supposed to have one. But the only problem is, how do i convince the judge to alow me to live on my own?

Can you show a judge that you can support yourself 100%, including rent, food, clothes, transportation, medical care, school supplies, internet connection, utilities, and everything else, while simultaneously going to school and keeping your grades up? By, show a judge, I do not mean saying, "I'll get a job,"; I mean being able to say, 'I work at XYZ company for x hours a week; I make xxx.xx per week of which x goes to rent, x to food, x to utilities, etc. Here is my last report card showing a grade point average of x.xx".

Can you give a judge a better reason than, "I want to be free of parental control?" Because I promise you, that reason is NOT going to fly.

If the answer to either question is, no, then forget about emancipation.

Do you even have a job?

Im way ahead of you buddy. I do not currently have a job, but i am filling out application left and right.

When you have a job that meets the definitions I set out for you above, come back and talk to us. Until then, you're wasting your time even thinking about it.

Agreed? No judge will grant such a petition on "I will have a job" Get the job and comeback

Oh, and the judge is going to want to see that you've held the job for some period of time, probably six months to a year, and kept your grades up during that time. Don't try applying the first week you get the job - that won't get you anywhere.

Don't forget, the job is only the first part of it. You still need a reason why you NEED to be emancipated. WANTING to get emancipated is not going to cut it. Unless you can provide a valid reason (NOT, I don't get along with my parents - NO teen gets along with his/her parents) why it is in your best interest to be emancipated, why you will be harmed if you are not emancipated, it won't happen.

Remember what I said above, judges LOOK for reasons to DENY emancipation.
