Pls Help, Expired Tabs By 3-weeks, Now My 16-yr Old Son Could Lose License
From WA State. I feel horrible for my 16-yr old son. I own the car that he was driving yesterday evening and he got stopped for tabs that expired 3-weeks ago on Feb 18. The postcard reminder must have come around Christmas time but I must have misplaced it. Now my son has a 'traffic violation' for $124 and has an 'intermediate license' through WA state. The police officer said that he should have known about the tabs being expired since he is the driver. About 3-months ago he got a speeding ticket for going 38 in a 25mph zone and ever since then he is so careful to watch what the speed lmiit signs are. So now with 2 infractions he could lose his license until he is 18. I FEEL HORRIBLE since the expired tabs are my fault. Do you think the courts would at least take it off his name and onto mine? It is my fault. Should I mitigate this?

Actually you may be the owner of the car but the driver assumes responsibilty when they get in the car and drive it away. It's about reasonable care like looking at the tires to see that there is not a flat. Checking the fluids in the motor to make sure you have oil, transmission fluid, and so forth. In my opinion your son is just going to have to take the hand dealt on this one.
