Evicting Roommate In Illinois
Tenant A was to rent an appartment in Illinois, USA, with a friend. The friend fell through and Tenant A was left with an appartment they could not afford. So, Tenant A got a roommate, Tenant B. An agreement was made between them reguarding how much rent was to be paid and when, it was also agreed that Tenant B would be added to the lease upon completion of the security deposit. Tenant B paid part of the security deposit and was allowed to move in, with the understanding that the remainder would follow shortly.
Tenant B has, to date, failed to complete the security deposit and so is not on the lease. Tenant B is also 10 days late with the months rent with no excuse or reason as to why, Tenant A informed Tenant B that they need to pay or leave, Tenant B has done neither.
Tenant A recently started a new job and is unable to take time off of work to take the matter to court, what are Tenant A's options?
Re: Evicting Roommate In Illinois
Tenant A needs to serve Tenant B with a 5 Day Eviction Notice for failure to pay rent, per Illinois rules.
If Tenant B doesn't pay up or get out, Tenant A is unfortunately going to have to make arrangements to take the matter to court.
Re: Evicting Roommate In Illinois
Tenant A was afraid of that.
Thank you anyway for your help.
