Shoplifting Charges In Galax, Virginia

I was charged with shoplifting in Galax, VA.....I do not live there. The total of merchandise was $45.00. My first court date was in Nov. but my lawyer couldn't be there so I was appointed another date....coming up soon! On the day in Nov. others who were there for the same charges were sentenced to 2 days in jail. Is this what I'm facing too? I'd give anything not to have to spend time in jail. I talked to my lawyer and he said he'd try to talk to the (Commonwealth), not sure if that's right, to see if he could get me something besides jail time.....but I'm scared to death. I know everyone tells the same..."it won't happen again".....but I'd bet my life "IT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN". Any advice you can give will be appreciated.

From what I understand VA has a mandatory 2 day jail term for shoplifitng. I could be worng as I have not seen any documentation to support that. It is what I have been told. So to answer your question yes your looking at two days in jail. You should discuss your defense and possible plea deals with your Attorney to minimize your punishment as much as possible
