    Statutory Rape Law In Florida
I've been doing some digging in about this because I am 18 years old, turning 19 this month and my girlfriend is 16. We met when we were in high school and have been together for 10 months. Her parents do not mind me being with her, but my mom is scared to death that I might go to prison for being with my girlfriend. We're not having any sexual contact other than kissing and holding hands.

Can I be charged with statutory rape if anything should happen?

Reason why I ask is because I know someone who is 19 years old and is imprisoned for 10 years for statutory rape with a 16 year old. I really would hate leaving my girlfriend because of this. But if it is a necessity, then I'll just have to wait until she turns 18. Thank you.

Even some forms of kissing can land you in trouble especially in FL. You also need to be concerned about text messages, emails, phone calls, pictures, chat etc if they have a sexual nature or overtone to them. In short if you wouldnt do it with your sister its not safe.

Florida is awfully close to Alabama; I wouln't mention a sister that close to AL.

In all seriousness, you need to talk to the girl and the parents. Legally the parents can not grant you the authority to statutorilly rape their daughter just by consenting. Some states allow copulation between a consenting adult and minor over x age if they are married. Outside of that it takes one little angry chuch lady (or agnostic/atheist for that matter) to report it as a crime. Even if an overzealous prosecutor can't nail you on statutory rape charges they may gather enough evidence for a "contributing to the delinquency of a minor" charge.

It might be time to let her go and see if she will come back when she is 18 or maybe even after college. If she truly loves you she will remember you. Note - I generally date women a year older than me...my first was not memorable, but I remember the first woman I truly loved; Lois. Yeah, it dates me, but emotions on humans have not matured in 30 years; if anything we have become more immature and moved towards our caveman roots as a society.

That's some really good advice. That's worth at least $250-$500/hr. Hell, for that matter, it will save him about $30,000, a little prison time, and lifetime Registered Sex Offender Status.

    ...PRICELESS!
