Help With A Shoplifting Case From Two Years Ago
Hi i'm new to this forum so first let me say hello to everyone. I'm in need of assistance. About 2 years ago i got the brilliant idea to steal from JcPenney (please know that i'm being sarcastic) and i got caught. They took me to the back wrote me a ticket and i went to court. i pleaded "no contest" got no probation/community service/ fines. All the judge said was "don't let it happen again" Then JcPenney's legal services sent me a letter a few weeks later asking me to pay for my shoplifting and claiming that if i paid for the "work" done processing my claim that it wouldn't go on my record. so i paid it off and its been gone. Okay so here i am 2 yrs later and i have a nice office job that is now requiring to have me fingerprinted ( i deal w/ annuities & bonds) and i have to fill out a background check. Will this ordeal show up? I do want to mention that i had a background check ran on me last year for a different job and was told that "nothing" was found...
Re: Help W/ Shoplifting Case From 2 Yrs Ago...
It sounds as though you were convicted of shoplifting so yes it will show up.
Re: Help W/ Shoplifting Case From 2 Yrs Ago...
really? :wallbang: idk why i ever did it! I am still a little confused as to why my previous job said my background check was clear
Re: Help W/ Shoplifting Case From 2 Yrs Ago...
Background checks vary perhaps the area of offense was not covered or perhaps your sentence was a deferral. Check your court for record see what it says
Re: Help W/ Shoplifting Case From 2 Yrs Ago...
can you help me out as to how i would go about doing that? i'm not too sure where to start/who to call
Re: Help W/ Shoplifting Case From 2 Yrs Ago...
Call the court of your shoplifting incident see what the record shows

thank you so much for your time! :)
Re: Help With A Shoplifting Case From Two Years Ago
When I worked for a large Internet company that handled many things, including payment processing, they performed background checks. The background checks sometimes showed "clean" because we were only concerned with serious misdemeanors, Felonies, and Credit Score above 600 and Credit to Debt ratio of 50% or 75% or greater, can't remember which. Either way, the little things like shoplifting would not trigger unless someone had been caught more than one time. The larger things like larceny would trigger. If you had a Felony you would not get past the application process.
