Two Collection Agencies Trying To Collect On The Same Debt, Who Do I Pay?
Hi,
I live in Maryland and owe my former bank $600.00 odd dollars for a mistake that they made several years ago and I thought was straightened out. I have moved a few times since and nolonger have the information to prove their mistake.
I have gotten calls from 2 collection agencies. One is a lawyers agency and they have taken me to court. They are trying to charge me over 2000.00 dollars for this debt plus court costs. The other agency has offered to discharge this debt for 345.00 dollars. I went to the bank to try to pay it off but they sent me to the second agency. If I pay off the second agency can the first one still get a judgment in court for over 2K? They are trying to tell me that I will owe them no matter what but how can I owe two companies?
Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

Go to whatever collection agency the bank sent you to. Has the other one actually sent you to court? Do you have any proof or documentation that it was the bank's fault?

I'd be willing to bet you will never see the inside of a courtroom for $600.
Check your credit report. See which collection agency has an open account.
