Just Sacked

Hello im New to these forums, and i ha a question of weather i was lawfully terminated or not. I am 17 and just started working at coldstone creamery and today they sacked me. The only thing i can figure they fired me for is Consistent incompetence because i didn't memorize the songs and creations fast enough even though i was still in the training period of two weeks. I was given no warning and no clear reason as to why i was being fired. If you need any more information i would be glade to give it, if it would help you guys determine if i was in fact lawfully terminated.

They can fire you for just about anything under the sun except for certain areas that are protected under the law (sex, religion, etc.)

Unless you're in Montana, your employment situation is what is called "at will".

That means the employee or the employer can terminate the employment relationship at any time, with or without notice, with or without cause.

It sounds like you were struggling with the job and knew it.

Don't fret. Coldstone is beneath you anyway. I think companies that make their personnel sing for tips should be dismantled brick by brick, and the people in charge should be beaten with said bricks.

Chin up. You'll find something better, something that doesn't require you to demean yourself for pocket change.

CA is at will....let this one go Grizzley, they could have said you can't sing and it would be a good enough reason. Yeah it sucks, but stay in school, stay out of trouble and one day you will look back and say "man, I'm sure glad I can't sing a tune"

Yes, you are reading it incorrectly. In that article it states that "Consistent incompetence" is listed as one of the reasons an employer can fire an employee and it will hold up.

But my beef is that i wasnt given "reasonable opportunity to succeed" or any reason as to how i wasnt able to do a competent job.

Then just call the manager who fired you and ask him. He knows that you can't sue the company. Call him up and ask him for some feedback. The worst that can happen is he refuses to answer.
What your not getting is that they DO NOT HAVE TO GIVE YOU AN OPPORTUNITY, they can fire you at their will.
I knew a guy who worked for a company for 44 years. 93 days prior to retirement, (june) they fired him for something that happened the previous december so they didn't have to pay him what he felt was rightfully his....his retirement. They didn't give him a reason right away, they made up something. He was screwed, you are not.

In at-will employment they don't have to give you a reasonable opportunity to succeed or a reason why they believed you couldn't do the job. You can be terminated at any time for any reason (or no reason) just as you could have quit at any time for any reason. The only exception is they can't fire you for a reason protected by law (age, religion) or unless you had an employment contract to the contrary.
