Emancipation - What Are My Chances
I live in washington state. I am 16. i know that i could support myself. i want to file for emancipation in april after i get my licence. I do all my school online,I have a job. the only thing i am lacking is a really good reason. I have a relatively good family life. i wake up go to work do my school and some other various chores around the house. Its not going to kill me to stay at home for another year and half, however i do everything on my own my parents are not really involved in my life. They give me rules and that is about it. I want to go thru with the emancipation process. If someone could give me an idea of what my chances are for the courts to grant my emancipationt that would be great.
    thanks for your input

Emancipation of minors is a legal mechanism by which a child is freed from control by their parent(s)/guardian(s), and the parent(s)/guardian(s) is/are freed from any and all responsibility toward the child.

And the way to be freed of control is by having a job where you support yourself 100%.

    Have you done that?

If not, then you cannot be emancipated.

A: You move out. You get a job. You work so you can support yourself 100%. You pay your own rent. You pay your own insurance. You pay your own car payment. You pay your own grocery bill. Forget a social life; you will be too busy working.

Emancipation is about self support to make it easy. If you are not currently self supporting or have no means in which to do so emancipation is not an option. Also I do not see where you name the state in which you reside. Emancipation is not available in all states and the statutes vary. Without knowing your state no one can even begin to tell you if its even an option

Tilley, you put this in the Abuse and Neglect Forum, if that really is an issue you should contact DSHS in your state.

You don't qualify and once you read it you'll see why.
