Trespassing After Shoplifting
Alright, Im 22 years old and I got busted for stealing about 105 bucks worth of items. (please no lectures, this was a first and LAST time offense)
They called the cops, but there was no criminal charges or anything, the cops let me go because it was my first time making this error.
my question is, I didnt sign anything at the store, but they somewhat (in between talking to a bunch of people about dinner plans) told me I wasnt welcome back.
What would happen if I go back to shop? this is the closest grocery store to home, and I need to get some food and my perscriptions from there.
Even though I didnt sign anything saying I wouldnt go back, can I get in trouble for trespassing if I do go back?
(Im in canada if that makes a differance)
thanks so much
Re: Trespassing After Shoplifting
You know you have been banned from the store. It would be easier for them if they had it in writing but they can nonetheless seek to have you arrested and criminally prosecuted for trespassing.
Re: Trespassing After Shoplifting
So this was the first time you were caught and the last time you were caught. When you were caught you gave up the convenience of entering that store without the risk of arrest for trespassing. You are lucky that they didn't say "any store."
You have to have your prescriptions transferred or ask someone else to pick them up for you.

"So this was the first time you were caught and the last time you were caught."
No, this is the first time Ive ever even done this.
Just because I was caught doesn't mean ive been doing it forever and just got caught once.
I just want to make that clear because I have never felt so humiliated in my life.
Also, Ive talked to the assistant manager at the store quickly when I went back to appologize and to have him thank the LP for me.
He mentioned something about coming back but only with my parents or my husband.
Is this something he has to discuss with the LP first? Or because he said so, can I go back as long as they are with me?
and thank you muchly for replying :)
Re: Trespassing After Shoplifting
Sandy, no one here can predict what the store will or won't do.
It is up to the store. If they are going to allow you back there get something in writing, that way if you are stopped by someone that isn't aware that you have been given permission to return, you won't get into trouble.
