Marriage And SSDI
Hello,
My BF has recently been granted SSDI. We have been together for a couple of years, and on Valentines day this year he proposed to me and my children :D Could any one help me with some questions that I have. I have looked on the Government disability site and cannot find any answers.
My understanding is that because he is getting SSDI and not SSI that my assets / income will not make a difference to his award. Is this correct?
When we marry he will officially become the childrens step parent , he is not their biological father will his SSDI increase to include them? Would this mean he needs to go through the whole horrible process again?
Is there anything we need to do, inform them etc?
Any help would be great, we are living in IA

Re: Marriage And SSDI
As SSDI is not means tested, family income does not affect eligibility.
He would have to adopt your minor children in order for them to qualify for benefits through him.

Re: Marriage And SSDI
What do you mean by SSDI is "not means tested"?
Please explain that to me?
