    Shoplifting Charges in New York
I made a mistake. I was arrested for stealing $45.00 of stuff from a store in N.Y. I was arrested 10 years ago for a simular crime. I currently work in a bussiness that requires you be finger printed(its not a bank). Will the police send my prints to my job? Second can I apply for a diversion program I'm 28 years old in grad school? I cant afford a lawyer. Can I ask the court to lower the charge and not have a record for this charge. I'm really afraid that I will lose my job or I will not be able to get another because of this charge. What can I do to not have this small charge ruin my life. I would be willing to do community service for the rest of my life.

If you cannot afford an Attorney then request a Public Defender on your next court date. Then ask your questions of that Attorney. Police do not send out fingerprints or call employers but if convicted it will show up on a background check
