Emancipating An 18 Year Old In Virginia
Our daughter will be 18 years old in few months. She does not follow the household rules and is very disrespectful to me and my husband. Since she is not a paying tenant, how do we have her removed from our home? (An eviction notice is for tenants that pay rent).

    You don't.

She's a minor and you're still legally responsible for her no matter how impatient you are to have her gone. This is parenting, and this is what we sign up for when we get the two pink lines and choose to carry and raise the child.

Emancipation is not for parents who are tired of their children any more than it is for children who are tired of their parents. It is meant for children who, for whatever reason, find themselves completely taking care of themselves - renting an apartment, paying bills, buying groceries, and everything else adult independence entails - and need to be legally free of the encumbrances of being a minor.

This is not the case here.

However, when she reaches 18, you are free to pack her bags, leave them for her on the front porch, and change the locks.
