    Sex Offender Registry Texas
I am probably going to have to register as a sex offender in Texas. I have been doing some research, and most states to not list the sex of the victim, rather just the age. Everything I have read in the Texas Penal Codes says nothing about listing the sex of the victim. However, in the DPS Sex Offender Registry, the sex of the victim is included.

    Am I missing something somewhere?

Uhh.. When people look at the sex offender list they are more likely to judge based on the age of the victim than the sex. However, every list I have seen has included both age and sex of victim. Why does it matter anyway?

Well apparently he (or she) would rather people not know the gender of the person s/he sexually assaulted.

    Why is that an issue?

Many states have clauses in the victim rights legislation that strictly protects victim identification information, not just their name, but their street, occupation, etc. It's common to only list an age, and NOT include a gender. In it's own way, this also has a somewhat protective impact on offenders as well, since many people would assume victims of sex crimes to be of the opposite gender - although obviously this isn't always the case. (for example, men who molest girls often don't face the same repurcussions either socially or in the corrections system as men who molest boys).
