Contesting A Parking Ticket In A City I Was Not In
I just received a notice for a parking violation in the city of San Francisco, California for the date of Jan 22, 2008. I live in the Los Angeles area and parked my car at the local transportation center at 4:30 am. The ticket was for 8:18 am, no way I could drive to frisco in under 4 hours to illegally park. They even got the color of my car wrong, but did have the correct make and model and license plate. What's my chances of successfully contesting this?
    Thanks

Do you have a parking receipt?

I expect that would put your chances at 100%.

No parking receipt. This is an open parking lot. I can prove I was at work that day but can't prove my car was not in SF.

I would just call them and explain the situation and why you think an error has been made. I once got a parking ticket for my father, five years after he had died. Plate number was his at one time but the car no longer even existed. Called Newark, NJ and straightened it out over the phone and had them mail me a letter for my records that it was an error. If they won't handle it over the phone, a statement from your boss that you were at work that day, plus your and/or other's statements that you had possession of your car that day in LA should be reasonable enough proof your car was not there.

I agree with the above advice. The city of San Francisco's government is incredibly inept..and they know it. Call them up, ask to speak to someone who understands English, and explain the situation.
