18 Year Old's Rights In California
I am currently going to college in CA. I moved here from MN. I am 18 years old. My parents are threating me that they will pull me out of college and bring me back home. Do I have any legal rights? If they do try and come take me back home is there any legal rights or laws against it? Do I have any say in anything?

    Any help is appreciated.

Are they paying for your college?

You are a legal adult, I don't know why they believe they have the ability to pull you from college and haul you back home.

You are a legal adult. They can not forcibly take you anywhere. If they are paying for your college education (or anything else) - they can stop - but they can not kidnap you.

Yes, they are paying for my college. If my parents stop the loans for the college will i get kick out? Would i have to re-apply for the college next quarter? Is there way in CA that I could get loans by my-self to go to school? What could I do if they happen to come out to CA and show up at my apartment trying to force me back home?

Are the loans in their name or yours?

If they're in yours, ignore them.

If the loans are in their name, skitter on down to your college's financial aid office for the necessary forms to apply for grants and loans on your own.

Explain the situation. They'll help you fill everything out. Typically, if you have to take a semester off for financial reasons, you don't need to re-apply. Keep in close touch with the financial aid and admissions departments so you know what your school's policy is.

Don't open the door. If they have keys, have your landlord change the locks NOW. Call the police if need be. Be prepared for them to be pissed, though, and for holidays to be awkward for a while.

You're an adult. They no longer have authority over you.

The loans are under my parents names.
I will go talk to my financial aid and admissions people tomorrow.
Thank you so much for your help! You really lifted a weight off my shoulders!

Also, I'm not sure if you have any idea on this topic but I am also getting VA (Veteran Affairs) check every month to go to school. (My father was in the army and had an accident resulting in him not being able to work. So the VA gives me a check every month to help me pay for bills.) Could my parents possibly stop me from getting a check from the VA every month? Even, though the check comes in my name?
