Adverse Possession
My next door neighbor is in a nursing home for the past 3yrs. Her husband past away 15yrs ago and her last living family member was her sister that passed away 10yrs ago. She never had any children and does not have a will. I have a set of keys to her house that she gave me prior to going into the nursing home in the event that something ever happened. I have been taking care of her house maintaining the yard, taking her mail to her and just watching over her house. Because of her medical condition she will not be coming home. I have nothing in writing stating that she wanted me to take care of her house but the police dept knows since I have had to call them when the broke into her house. Her memory is going now so she is not capable of signing over the house to me. She doesn't even remember who I am sometimes. Now my dad's health is becoming an issue and I need to move him closer to me. I have been told to look into adverse possession since there is no other family members and no will. I know she loves her house and takes alott of pride in it and I hate to see it deteriorating. What can I do?? In Texas.....

Re: Adverse Possession
The nursing home and possibly the state will probably have a claim to the property. Talk to the nursing home about someone being named as guardian and you purchasing the house from them.
