Michigan Emancipation

I would like to be emancipated from my parents, my parent's house is not a good environment for a teenager to be in. The environment just makes me emotionally unstable. I have a place to live and I am going to school, I will be driving in about 3 months so, I will be able to get a job. I need to know how to go about it as soon as I can, I live in Shiawasee County and I need help with my inquiry

To be emancipated in Michigan, absent a circumstance which automatically results in emancipation (such as marriage or active duty service in the armed forces), you would have to convince a court you are able to support yourself, and are capable of managing your financial and social affairs. Michigan's emancipation statutes are available online.

i am in the same position, i am 16 about to turn 17 in about a month and a half. I want to get emancipated, because my step father and my mother have some problems. I live in Saugatuck Michigan, but i go to a military boarding school in HOWE indiana. I don't feel right living at home and i want to get emancipated before the summer comes. I will have a job this summer, and i can retun to my military school on a scholarship, i hold pretty good grades. I do not know how to go about my petition. My parents will protest that i do know. But i have spoken to a few teachers ehre and they want to help me, i have a affidavit and she said she can also get me a lawyer. What rights do my parents have to hold me back? please i would liek to hear back from anyone that cna help.

:( i am exactly the same way, and I find it difficult to live a normal life in my home. I know you may all think I am so lucky, I have my mom and my dad, they are together still, but only after a divorce. They are both recovering alcoholics and they are always at each others throats. They are constantly bickering about this and that, and any time I have a problem, they ship me off to a councelor or tell me that Im just making things worse than they really are. I can't stand living here anymore, and Im turning 16 on july 17th, and I'll have a job, ON THAT DAY. I just want to know what I can do, and please please please...is there someone I can call, or email, or write to, that could help me get this process on the way?? Im lost and confused in my own home and I can't function here. I have good grades and I am a good kid, I dont do bad things and I try my hardest to be a better person than my parents, but it just doesnt help. Please PLEASE...someone help me.

You can review the statutory grounds for emancipation here. If none of them fit, you can petition for emancipation at the age of 16.

if your 14 you cannot be emancipated... if you are being hurt I suggest telling someone who could help you or telling everyone untill one of them helps you and I don't mean telling kids, truthfully at 14 you could support yourself or provide housing if you tried, so wait it out awhile if you can, don't run away, and if you can't stay there contact an adult for help, maybe a school counseler. The fact that you want to be emancipated at 14 concernes me, I was that way too, but if you have serious reason then please tell someone, also running away gets you nowhere trust me.

I'm 15 and I'll be 16 in about 6 months. I want to be emancipated because my situation at home causes a lot of emotional distress and every time I talk try to talk about it with my grandmother (whom i live with) she always sends me to a counselor and tells me I have anger problems. My mom passed away 3 years ago and my father isn't in the picture. My grandma may be loaded with money but she thinks she can buy my happiness. She tells me because of her money I can't be legally emancipated but I just can't deal with the verbal abuse. I don't know what to do. Do you think it'd be worth it to try emancipation?
