Could I Or My Sons Get Citizenship?
Hi there, I have had a complicated journey on trying to acquire citizenship but so far I have been unsuccessful. I was born abroad in 1970 to one U.S. citizen father and one alien mother. I have been trying to get citizenship trough my father but so far to no avail, I have been unable to prove the 10 years before my birth and at this point have only proved 6, I have a social security number but I am unable to work with it and I do not have a U.S. passport. My mother currently is a permanent resident of the U.S. and can apply for citizenship but has yet to do so, she also resides in the U.S. currently. When I was born she was not a resident. I have two sons, one born on 1989 and the other on 1991 and I have also tried to get them citizenship but have been told that I need to be a citizen before I can apply for them. Another note is that everyone in my family is a legal citizen of the U.S, brothers and sisters, except for me. Is there any way I can get citizenship or will I have to apply for a green card first?

    Where were your sons born?

If they were born in the US, citizenship is automatic.

My sons were not born in the U.S. I was asking if there was any way they could get it from their grandfather.

As for the 10 years I have been told I need 10 years of my father living in the U.S. so I can apply.
