    Can We Lose Citizenship By Taking An Overseas Job
    My wife is takeing the citisenship test soon and I am American born . but we are talking about going overseas for an oportunity that been brought to our attention that will extend past a year will this cause a lose of citisenship for my wife or I ?we live in Tx.

    Citizens do not lose their citizenship simply for going overseas to live and work for a while. If that were the case, any American student who has gone abroad for a year of study would no longer be a citizen! (I'd be in so much trouble - I was gone for a year and a half!)

    It's actually pretty hard to lose your US citizenship. Unless you're planning to commit treason, take a cabinet position in a foreign government, tell the US consulate that you wish to relinquish citizenship or take up an officer's or non-com's post in a foreign military, you're fine.

    (Wait until your wife has taken the Oath of Citizenship, though!)
