Charged As An Accessory In Michigan
I live in Michigan and recently I was with a friend at the mall that took less than 40 dollars worth of stuff from Old Navy. I new she took the items and did nothing to stop her figuring that she did it not I. On our way out we were stopped and brought to the back of the store. We were very coperative and the police we called and court dates were set ect.
Neither of us have any prior convitions. I think I am being charged the same as her. Is there anything I can do to lessen my charges or not get this on my record.
    Thank you so much!

You should consult a criminal defense lawyer, who can review the police report and determine if there is any basis to get the charge dismissed, or in the alternative can negotiate with the prosecutor to get you into a diversion program (if available in your county) or deferred sentence (if you qualify). If you're under 21 and haven't been in trouble before, you are probably eligible for deferred sentencing under Michigan's HYTA law.
