Can Dell Erase My Hard Drive During Repairs
    Maryland:

I returned my computer twice in the same month to have Dell repair it. On the second occasion the technician erased my hard drive without my permission. Under the warranty I am required to backup all information on my hard drive before having them fix it, however, the problem with my computer was that it was impossible for me to turn it on, therefore not allowing me to back my hard drive up (all of this was explained to the technician via phone). Thousands of dollars of software and valuable information has been erased. Are they allowed to do that without my permission?

Yes. Next time pull the drive - you're responsible for your data.

If you had thousands of dollars worth of software - you have thousands of dollars worth of software media to reinstall. As far as valuable information, it was created at one point and can be backed up at another.

I'd recommend purchasing an external harddrive and do auto nightly backups to it.
