Re: Emancipation At Age 21
You're 21, so you're already a legal adult.
Re: Emancipation At Age 21
At the age of 21, the only emancipation that might possibly be applicable would be with reference to college tuition. Is that the concern? If so, while I don't have it myself, there are others on this board who can direct you to the appropriate information.
If that is not the issue, at age 21 you are legally emancipated already.
Re: Emancipation At Age 21
It is related with tuition purposes, but I have proof of having supported myself for 3 years and I don't know how difficult the process would be.
Re: Emancipation At Age 21
You need to discuss this with your college financial aid office.
Re: Emancipation At Age 21
My college is out of state and I believe I have to deal with the emancipation in my home state. Also, I don't feel as though they will be helpful because I am doing such to receive a lower tuition rate (not lower rate, but financial aid support). But I suppose that is an option, a better one than immediately running to a lawyer for help. If I do attempt the process for emancipation, will I need a lawyer or can it be done solely by an individual and the courts?
Re: Emancipation At Age 21
Neliamay, Fafsa doesn't recognize emancipated minors (but as was stated, you are not a minor and are already legally an adult).

I have two, adult children in college and although they can not be considered independent (for FAFSA purposes), some colleges do have forms that have "Independent Verification Forms" (however, the ones that I have read have the same guidelines as outlined in the Fafsa application).
So, mine take out student loans and work to keep the loan amounts at a minimum.
