    Reentry Under Special Circumstances
Seeking advice to retain alien resident card.

Dear sir/maam, My case is rather unusual. My father was a citizen of the USA. He expired in 1980, when I was 9-10 years old. We retained the alien card. However in 1996 I applied for Naturalization, and gave the interview. I was not called after that and kept being called for printing. In 2006 my card expired, and I took a 2 year Retentry permit but could not return as my mom was suffering from cancer and needed surgery. I did not return within the prescribed time. What will be my satuts if I return, do I lose the residence status? I am not financially well off to make the return trip.

You may well be deemed to have abandoned permanent residency.

What is the law if I reenter with expired documents. Is there any way to save the green Card now?

You need to consult an immigration lawyer.
