Has Paternity Already Been Established
I have a 4 year old daughter of which her father and I are not married. She was born and we reside in New Jersey. I am trying to find out if paternity was established at birth. Her dad was there & signed the birth certificate & she carries his last name, however i am not certain if at the hospital we signed anything additional claiming paternity. I am not seeking support however I do want him legally listed as her dad. Who do I contact to verify if paternity has been established?
Re: Has Paternity Already Been Established
Ok so 4 years ago you slept with a man and had a child. You gave the child his name and had him sign BC. Now 4 years later you want to know if hes the Father (legally)? Its been four years she knows him as Dad and carries his name. He is the "presumed" Father so unless a paternity test is done to disestablish him as Father hes the Father
Re: Has Paternity Already Been Established
yes 4 years ago i slept with a man & conceived a child & yes she knows who her dad is. What I am asking is from a legal standpoint, is it recorded "legally" that he is her dad just because he signed the birth certificate & she carries his surname. It has been brought to my attention that I need to determine if it has been established in the courts
Re: Has Paternity Already Been Established
If you and he completed an acknowledgment of paternity such that he is on the birth certificate, that established his paternity.
