Retail Theft For $95

I am in Pittshburgh, Pensyvenia.
It's nightmare for me. I have stolen few items. They caught me on the shop door and called police. They took my photography and my Pensylvenia ID card. After that Police tolde me that I will get a notice from court and reply it back with specified fine and mention "Guilty".

I am an immigrant. Will it be impact my future carrier and VISA status?

The store manager gave me a paper for Penslevenia Statute:

it has written over ther:

Limitatons;

1. The palintiff shall send a notice to the defendant's last known address giving 20 days to respond before a civil action may cmmenced.

2. No civi Action under this section may be maintained if the defendent has paid the palintiff a penalty equal to the retail value of the mercendise, not to exceed $500 , plus the sum of $150.


What does it mean.... If I will pay that amount, then will there be any further action can be taken against me?

My original plan was to go back by Mar...

1. what might be amount of fine. Should I go to Court any more or I have to send it by mail.

2. Is there any posibility of Imprisonment?

3. Before completion of this case can I go to my own country? What needs to be done.


3. Police told me that it is just as a traffic ticket. You have to pay the penalty. It is Summary offense as it is less that $100.

Civil Demand and court fines are seperate. Civil Demand cam be anywhere from $50.00 to $1000.00 depending on state law expect your around $300.00. Court fines will not exceed $1000.00

You will get your court fine, probation etc when you go to court and are convicted

If thats the case its an infraction and does not show up as a conviction however you should still discuss with an Attorney how this might or might not effect your imigration status

You stole a few times - does that mean that you've been charged a few times, or just once? If it's just one misdemeanor shoplifting charge, you are probably going to be okay under the "petty offense exception" to crimes of moral turpitude.

But if you keep stealing, you're going to become ineligible to be in the United States - and nobody is going to be sad to see you go.
