Help With a Civil Demand Notice
about 2 months ago i turned myself in because i felt bad and did not want to be prosecuted. i stole an itouch and a gps which added up to about 900 dollars. i signed a termination form and got my last paycheck. recently i got a civil demand notice. it says i have to pay 350.00$ in 15 days. my question is, if i pay this, will they still prosecute me for stealing? and if they do prosecute me, wat do you think the charge will be?

    Laws vary by state...

    Will they prosecute? Who knows.

Can they file charges after you pay the civil demand letter? Yes.

Were you called in? I mean were they aware of theft prior to your confession and were they aware it was you? If not then they may have no evidence to press charges. If they wanted to press charges they probably would have by now.

what actually happened was, they i turned myself in and returned the stuff. and they let me go the same night and did not call the police. On my civil demand letter it has a case number, so does that mean i already have a case? theyre already setting up to take me to court? and whats the probability they would prosecute me if i pay it? i mean its been like 2 months and people keep telling me if they wanted to prosecute me and get the cops involved, they wouldve done it already.

The case number means nothing as Civil Demand and crimianl charges are unrelated. Were you accussed? Or did you just have a guilt attack and walk in and give yourself up?

well i wasnt accused, my manager actually put me to the side cuz he heard some poeple saying i stole something and wanted me to come clean so i did. the LP knew nothing about it though, he had to call him that night and tell him. do you think they would prosecute me if i pay it? cuz thats pretty messed up if i pay and still get prosecuted.

They have no evidence other than that you gave them. Could they sure they could but that very unlikely. Just pay your Civil Demand and this sad story should be over

really? they have no evidence? i also forgot to tell you that i had to write down on a paper how i stole the items. and im pretty sure i was under the camera. however, they dont have me on camera stealing the items, only taking it out of the glass case. does this interfere with your theory?

I agree, but I do wish I could read minds.
