It's going to depend upon the court's docket and whether your petition is contested. Probably two to four months, but the court clerk may be able to give you a better idea.

    :(

Well then emacipation would not be right for me. I will be 18 in March but I am having legality issues at school. They say that I need a legal guardian to attend school. The school has told me that I have to go back and live with my adoptive "parents" whom I have not lived with for almost two years. They are emotionally abusive and they try to interfere with my education. All I want to do is to graduate this May like I am supposed to.
I can't get an apartment because I am not 18 and as of January 1st 2008 I will have nowhere to live. Are there any suggestions as to what I can possibly do?

You were hoping we could give you a way to get emancipated in four days during the break between Christmas and New Year's?

    Sorry, that is not possible.

No I did not expect that...I just need something that is quicker than the two months it will be until I turn 18. Obviously I cannot get emancipated in 4 days....I am not stupid. I am just trying to figure out all of my options because it is a little cold to be sleeping in my truck. :(

I am sure this is not the best of suggestions that will be to your liking, sit down with a laywer for a free consultation, you may even have to stay in a shelter, however there may be some different avenues that haven't been known about by anyone here that is replying to you. Sounds like you got your life together, if there is emotional and other abuse, filing a report to the police and submiting that with the petition for Emancipation may help speed things up dramatically. I am not however sure of the American Laws. I wish you the best of luck.

If you are a minor and will be homeless in a couple of days, pick up the phone and call children's services or walk into their office. They will probably assist you in obtaining foster care. You may also want to talk to them and see if there is an Independant Living program they can put you in once you age out of the system.
