Options For Niece
my niece has recently filed for emancipation from her mother/stepfather. She is 17 years old and will be 18 in just a few months. She wants to move from the state she is currently living and move with my husband and myself. She works a part-time job plus is in the National Guard. Would it be best for her to try the emancipation or for us to be her legal guardians. I am planning on going to the hearing for court and being there to tell the judge that she will be living with us. We have a stable christian family and she would continue her service here in our state with the National Guard.

Re: Options For Niece
Being emancipated is about self support. Living with you does not meet that criteria.

Re: Options For Niece
Emancipation laws are different in each state. Also, she won't have her job if she moves to another state.
Her best bet, being a few months from her eighteenth birthday, is to try to convince her parents to let her live with you.
