Re: Charges Filed For Misrepresentation Of Age
There are numerous reason (even beyond the legal ones) to know someone before sex. Even teens who date often know each other before first date. There are diseases to concern yourself about, unwanted pregnancies etc. The idea of jumping in the sack without knowing much more than a first name (if that) is not only stupid its life threatening. I do not for one minute believe that most of these person did not know or have some concern about the age of the victim (yes victim). The arguement of ignorance is a sham. Thats my two cents.

One day our legislature will see that if you put a punishment in place for those whom misrepresent themselves on purpose that maybe they could use our tax dollars to put actual child predators in jail and not mislead, ignorant boys that dont "card their girlfriends"
I agree. You can't even begin to compare an 18 year old boy who had a relationship with a 16-17 year old girl to a pervert that actually forcefully molested innocent children. There is just no way you can compare those two.
If the girl lied about their age I believe it should be a defense against prosecution. I know that in my state (Texas) it is a defense if it can be proven, but thats not the case in most states.
Everybody know that the Sex offender registration laws need to change badly. Cases like Genarlow Wilson have really opened the publics eyes. A lot of people on the list actually belong on there, but there are some who do not.
Re: Charges Filed For Misrepresentation Of Age
How do I get information on the case you mentioned?
Re: Charges Filed For Misrepresentation Of Age
Re: Charges Filed For Misrepresentation Of Age
The Wilson case seems more about the punishment than misrepresentation of age.
Re: Charges Filed For Misrepresentation Of Age
Heres a quote from what I found
Quote:
On October 26, 2007, the Georgia State Supreme Court ruled that Wilson's sentence was cruel and unusual ("grossly disproportionate"). He was released later that day.
So its about the punishment rather than misrepresntation of age. As I briefly read this nothing is said about the 15 year old or 17 year hiding their ages in fact this party seems to have had all kinds of under age sex going on

True, but it did wake the public up. People now realize our Sex Offender laws punish innocent people. People who cannot even be compare to the monsters that the laws were originally intended for.
Re: Charges Filed For Misrepresentation Of Age
Nothing in that case suggest Wislon innocent just harshly punished! Your making the case into something its not. wilson got ten years where you should have got less time or probation. He was hardly considered "innocent".
Re: Charges Filed For Misrepresentation Of Age
Many states have since removed from these requirements drunken public urinators and suspects otherwise consensual acts with minors between two parties only a few short years apart. In my state public urination and misdemeanor unlawful sexual intercourse are no longer registrable offenses. Other states have followed suit over the past few years.

So has the great state of Texas. We are the greatest state in the union.
