Theft has its consequences and this is one of them. Yes its legal
So if the police weren't called would her name still have been added to Choice Point? Or does TJ Max add all the names of everyone who's been detained?
That would be a question for retailer. However retailers that input shoplfiters names in retail database usually put all shoplifters in it reagrdless of if they press charges
Oh really? That's interesting, I've read through a lot of these threads and never read retailers putting the suspect's name in a database of that sort. So do the retailers tell the offenders about this or is it just a small print on a paper they sign?
Not all retailers do this and they are under no obligation to do so
I have been in retail as an employee and consultant for over 20 years.
In every company I have worked with, LP puts EVERY person caught shoplifting into the database regardless of whether or not the police are called.
Part of this is to find out if the person that you just caught has done this before. That will help make the determination of whether or not the police will be called this time.
This is 100% correct that that database might be internal it might be shared within same retailer or even many retailers. However all stops are recorded and names can be found very easily
