Class B Misdemeanor Shoplifting and Texas Law
I would like to know the potential sentence of Misdemeanor Class B (Theft over $50 under $500) in State of Texas for the incident (shoplifting) on March 20, 2000.
I am not sure if the law and the potential sentence have not been changed since 2000. If they have not been changed since then, what are the law and the potential sentence?
Please let me know the source that I can print out.
Thanks so much
Re: Misdemeanor Class B (Shoplifting) & Texas Law
Class B misdemeanors - Texas statute 12.22.:
An individual adjudged guilty of a Class B misdemeanor shall be punished by:
(1) a fine not to exceed $2,000;
(2) confinement in jail for a term not to exceed 180 days; or
(3) both such fine and confinement.
The amount of the fine is up to individual Courts. Judges can levy fines for amounts of up to and including. I do not know if ths fine structure was in effect in 2000 or not, but the premise remains the same.
