15 Year Old Girl In Trouble For Shoplifting
today i got caught shoplifting at Kmart...
and the total amount was less then 20
and around 30 to 35 dollars with taxes added...
the person who detained me told me i would get a letter sent home...
saying i would have to pay for the product stolen and also for wasting there time filing paperwork...
and they banned me from the store or i would get arrested...
how much of a fine will i have to pay in this case since i have no criminal record?
Re: 15 Year Old Girl In Trouble For Shoplifting
It varies but should be around $200.00 I would guess
Re: 15 Year Old Girl In Trouble For Shoplifting
thanks im less worried about the whole situation now my next question would be
whatever the amount is does it have to be paid immeadiately or by payments.....
because then again I am 15 and well my parents won't help me on this one....
nor will i let them so can this be paid maybe in monthly payments?
Re: 15 Year Old Girl In Trouble For Shoplifting
You can request the opportunity to make payments, and even try to negotiate for a lower amount. They don't have to say yes, but it doesn't cost you anything (but a few moments of time) to ask.
Re: 15 Year Old Girl In Trouble For Shoplifting
alright
so its possible right?
well that makes me feel better the problem is
i wasnt the only one caught my friend which is 16
also got caught and the amount was almost the same just a little higher
but it didnt go up to 40 dollars
so we have to pay for the products and then pay for there what so called
"services" which would be up to 200 dollars right?
they told both letters would be sent home and also that we would have to pay for there services is that even possible??
Re: 15 Year Old Girl In Trouble For Shoplifting
The $200.00 figure was a guess I have no way of knowing for sure. That guess comes from other cases at same approx level I am aware of. The other party is not your concern. Do as Aaron suggests
Re: 15 Year Old Girl In Trouble For Shoplifting
meryquir - What state were you apprehended in?
Re: 15 Year Old Girl In Trouble For Shoplifting
In California, the retailer may make a civil demand in the amount of $50.00 up to $500.
Re: 15 Year Old Girl In Trouble For Shoplifting
so it doesnt matter the amount stolen just bacially what the retailer decided right?
because the amount was less that 40 with taxes added
Re: 15 Year Old Girl In Trouble For Shoplifting
Actually the amount does matter.
Re: 15 Year Old Girl In Trouble For Shoplifting
so it does matter well im talking of about i forget 30 to 35 dollars that will be charged right?
Re: 15 Year Old Girl In Trouble For Shoplifting
Civil Demand is often 3 times or ten times amount of stolen items it varies
Re: 15 Year Old Girl In Trouble For Shoplifting
that much!
is there a way i can lower the amount since im a minor and this
is the first time it happens and also i have no criminal record?
Re: 15 Year Old Girl In Trouble For Shoplifting
That will be up to your parents and they fine will come to them. You can talk to them (your parents can) about lowering or making a payment plan. However there is no gurantee they will
Re: 15 Year Old Girl In Trouble For Shoplifting
thanks for the info then ill just have to wait for this letter and see what happens
Re: 15 Year Old Girl In Trouble For Shoplifting
in how much time does this famous letter will be delivered?...
Re: 15 Year Old Girl In Trouble For Shoplifting
It could arrive today or tomorrow, or it could be weeks or months from now.
Re: 15 Year Old Girl In Trouble For Shoplifting
hmmm
so then do they give us time to pay for it or do they ask for it to be payed at the moment?
Re: 15 Year Old Girl In Trouble For Shoplifting
So, how many times are you going to ask that question? When you get the letter call and find out.
Re: 15 Year Old Girl In Trouble For Shoplifting
alright i think i got it now
sorry im just too worried about the situation but alright ill wait it out thanks anyways
Re: 15 Year Old Girl In Trouble For Shoplifting
The letter will be addressed to your parents. It should provide options for payments using MO, checks and credit cards.
I agree with negotiating the fine but recommend your parents do it.
They will be more sympathetic to a parent who is liable for the fine. Have them be apologetic and mention that they have been shopping their for years spending $$$ each month.
