    Adoption by an Unmarried Couple
This is a little complicated. I live in New Jersey and have two children, both from different fathers. My 15 year old's father has always been involved with him, visiting, etc. My 3 yr old son's father moved to Florida when I was pregnant and has never attempted to see his son. I do get child support through a court order, but he has never attempted to see his son. I have a close relationship with my 15 yr old's father. Wewere never married and don't intend to at this point. My question is, can my 15yr old's father adopt my 3 yr old even though we are not married and are not living together. My 3 yr old loves him and he loves my 3 yr old and since his biological father seems to have no interest in him would this be possible?

It is possible; it would, of course, be easier if you were married. The natural father would have to consent or otherwise have his parental rights terminated by a court, perhaps on the basis of abandonment (depending upon the governing state law).
