Losing Out On Grandparenting In Texas
There was a dna done on my granddaughter, and they found out that she is not my son's child. I still claim her as my granddaughter, and want to be able to get to see her. Even if she is not my blood kin, she is still my grandaughter. My son's name is on her birth certificate as her daddy. He still pays child support for her, and he & his new wife have been going to court to get this all resolved. This has been going on now for almost three years. The little girl is soon going to be 6 years old, and lives with his ex. Since this has all happened, my son doesn't think it is wise for me to over to see the little girl, and he thinks it will jeoprodise the thing they are going through with the courts. I don't think so. It has been heartbreaking not being able to go and visit her, or to go any of her school activities. What rights do we as a grandparent have? Would it hurt to go against my son's wishes? Let me know what you think.

What is your son trying to do? If he's trying to delegitimize the child so that he loses his parental rights, so he doesn't have to pay child support any more, when his rights go away so do yours.

That was a painful story to read, but I pretty much agree with the other party who posted a comment. As painful as it may turn out to be, if your son is not the father of the child and is in court fighting to have his parental rights terminated so that he does not have to pay child support anymore, then once the courts make that determination that he no longer is responsible, that kind of cuts you out as well.

I will not use this forum to go into how horrible a thing it is for a woman to pretend that a man is a childs father when he is not, but what I will say is that doing so always has tragic consequences....always..someone always gets hurt including the child who has no idea what is going on....all they know is grandma and grandpa.....so sad.
