Chances of Being Caught A Couple of Days Later
I live in Oregon, and I stole some things from an Anthropologie store recently. I did not get caught and went about my day. Now I am freaking out thinking maybe they realized after I left the store that i stole, and am scared the cops are going to be knocking at my door any day. Do cops come to houses days after stealing? Or do u have to get caught in the act, at the store??????? HELP!!!!!!

Odds are you're not going to be caught at this time.

Go forth and sin no more.

We dont really deal in odds here thats not our purpose. If you were seen and they got your plate number or some other means to ID you expect a visit or call from Police. If they spotted you and you some how got away but have no means to ID you they "could" stop you next time you come in providing they saved the evidence. If they spotted you but lacked what their store policy requires for a stopp expect to be watched next time you enter. If you were not seen (most likely as 1 out of every 11 approx gets caught) then reentering store will cause you no harm. No one ca say what of the afore mentioned (or other possibe outcomes) could come into play

No one seemed to see me and it was a $12 candle and a $40 scarf. I was with another friend and from what i could see, there were no cameras (i.e. no domes in the cieling or mirrors etc...) I doubt the associates were watching me, because I buy expensive stuff there all the time.... and they know that since I probably spend around $400 to $500 there a month....If they did know I took the stuff, what is the typical protocol at Anthropologie? Wouldn't they stop me from leaving???? Why would they let me leave if they knew I stole???:(

Why would they wait for me to return?? Why wouldn't they have just got me then? If I never go back am I safe?

No one here knows what the store knows or don't know. Therefore we do not know why they didn't stop you or what they are planning to do.

Hopefully your paranoia will keep you from ever stealing again.

Yeah it will. I can barely eat I'm so nervous and every noise I hear I think it is the cops coming to get me. Do large retailers generally spend their time and resources on CATCHING someone who stole, or trying to PREVENT someone from being able to steal??? Has anyone on here ever had the cops come to their house days later?????

The answer to all your questions is yes. There is nothing we can say that will guarantee a certain result. Yes Police can and have shown up at peoples doors. Yes some retailers spend a great deal of time on catching sholifiters One retailer tells their Lp they are to catch one shoplifter for every 20 hours worked. Other stores have quotas etc. Other focus strongly on prevention but still make arrsts other make no arrests at all. There is no one answer
