Expunging a Misdemeanor

In 1988 I pled no contest to a misdemeanor crime that I was charged with after applying for credit with the wrong social security number. It was fraud so I had to pay a $250 fine. It was stupid and so humiliating.

How do I have this removed from my record for background checks when I am applying for employment. I resigned from my previous employer after 17years to saty home with my kids. That was three years ago. The thought of having to answer and face this question after 19 years is still humiliating to even think about. How can I change this and what are the procedures in Texas.

What class of misdemeanor was it? Did you get a deferred sentence, and successfully complete your deferred sentence?

It was a Class C misdemeanor. I pled no contest and was given the choice to pay a fine of $250 or 2days in jail. I paid the fine and the case was closed.

In Texas, you can't expunge a conviction without first obtaining a pardon.

How do you go about getting a pardon in Texas? Do I need a Lawyer?
