My Car Was Towed From My Apartment
Today I left my apartment and my car was gone. I called the cops and reported it stolen only to find out that my car had been towed. My apartment’s property manager had my car towed because of my expired tags. My tags are expired however I just bought the car from a dealership and I had the appropriate registration provided by the dealership in my window. The manager indicated that it was not valid registration and stated that they were not at fault. Could I recover funds for the fees I had to pay as well as pay for the day I had to take off of work due to my transportation being towed?
Re: My Car Was Towed From My Apartment
You need to identify your state.
How did you have expired tags on a vehicle you just purchased?
Re: My Car Was Towed From My Apartment
I'm in California
I don't know how it works with the dealership but the car I purchased was used and included in the purchase price was fee's for registration so they gave me the print out which was in the window of my car and I am waiting on the tags.
Re: My Car Was Towed From My Apartment
The physical tags are expired but I have the print out registration from the dealership taped to my windshield on the passangers side. The apartment manager is trying to say that that print out is not valid registration. I know for a fact it is because when I bought a car last year and got pulled over for expired tags as soon as the officer saw the print out he let me go. So I think they didn't see the registration printout in the window and are trying to cover their butts by saying it's not valid.
Re: My Car Was Towed From My Apartment
If you had valid registration, the vehicle shouldn't have been towed. You can seek to recover the towing fees in small claims court.
Note that this will not endear you to your landlord.
